LEWISTON (WGME) In a 5-4 vote Thursday night, the Lewiston School Committee voted to require masks in city schools.
After 5 hours of sometimes-rowdy public comment on the pros and cons of masking, the committee passed the controversial measure.
Under the new policy, masks will be required when the level of community transmission is moderate, substantial or high.
Superintendent Jake Langlais changed his recommendation from optional to mandated masking, based on the spike of new cases in the area.
The committee also unanimously approved pooled testing to monitor students and staff for COVID-19.
