LINCOLN, Maine – A heated MSAD #67 School Board meeting on September 17, 2025, drew 88 concerned parents and community members demanding answers about Social Studies teacher Derek Brewer, who allegedly made inflammatory remarks about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk’s assassination during class.

Parents pressed the board for clarity on Brewer’s employment status. The board refused to confirm whether he remained on staff, but several students told DavesPaper.com | Lincoln Edition that Brewer returned to his classroom Monday morning.

Frustration over the board’s lack of transparency quickly escalated.

“The board’s lackadaisical response was unacceptable,” one parent told DavesPaper.com. “We want accountability, not silence.”

The meeting spiraled further when Board member Andrew Funaro clashed with a podcaster and activist known on social media as “Truthslingerx.”

Funaro told the activist to “go back south” before slapping his phone out of his hand. Witnesses say Funaro appeared poised to throw a punch before being escorted out of the meeting.

As tensions flared, two police officers moved to surround a man who had begun speaking at the podium without being formally recognized by the school board chair. The move drew immediate objections from the crowd.

“You cannot arrest freedom of speech!” one attendee shouted.

“Let him speak!” another demanded, as frustration echoed throughout the room.

“Truthslingerx” has stated his intent to press assault charges.

What began as a meeting about classroom conduct ended in chaos, underscoring a growing divide between MSAD #67 leadership and the community it serves. Parents left vowing to continue demanding accountability and transparency.
