PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) — National Guard soldiers have a new readiness center in northern Maine.

The facility in Presque Isle, in Aroostook County, will house the 185th Engineer Support Company, replacing its old center in Caribou. The unit continues to maintain a detachment in Houlton.

The new 44,000-square-foot facility was dedicated the day before the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The 185th is one of four engineer companies under the 133rd Engineer Battalion. Its motto, “County Thunder,” is an homage to the days when it was an artillery regiment.

In January, several soldiers from the 185th were sent to Washington, D.C., ahead of the inauguration.
