Alan Swinney, a self-proclaimed member of the Oregon Proud Boys, was sentenced to ten years in prison last week after shooting an individual in the eye with a paintball gun during a riot in Portland, Oregon last year.
The incident happened on August 22, 2020 when far-left extremists came to shut down a right-wing pro-police rally with families in front of the Justice Center.
Swinney was also accused of drawing a handgun during the brawl with Antifa militants, and of dispensing bear mace in what he claims was in an act of self-defense.
In October, Alan Swinney was found guilty on eleven charges by a Multnomah County jury, including second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Prosecutors explained during the trial that Swinney showed “no remorse for his actions, no desire to change, and every intention of engaging in future acts of violence,” according to New York Times.
The sentencing came as a shock to many given Multnomah County’s leniency on prosecuting criminals, including far-left protesters that set fire to federal buildings in Portland and engaged in frequent assaults on police officers, journalists, and innocent bystanders.
To compare, Portland career criminal Marquise Love served only one year in prison after brutally assaulting Adam Haner. He knocked the victim unconscious after he roundhouse kicked him in the head. Love alleged that he was BLM security that night.
Portland Antifa member Gage Halupowski was sentenced to nearly 6 years in prison for striking a man on the head with a baton during a riot in 2019. The victim was left with severe injuries to the head. Halupowski was masked at the time and assaulted an officer while trying to escape.
Last week, Black Lives Matter activist Emilio Deleon pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in the brutal attack on Daniel Jones during a protest last year. Deleon and his friend beat Jones unconscious and left him bloodied. While laying unconscious on the ground, the other teen kicked Jones’ teeth in.
Emilio Deleon was only sentenced to probation while the other teen involved had a sealed case that was closed this year.
District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced Swinney’s charges in an October press release.
Included in the press release were comments made by Senior Deputy District Attorney Vasquez, where they stated that Swinney came to Portland to fight terrorists when in fact, “there was only one terrorist in Portland on those days, and it was Alan Swinney.”
